Windows 10 and 11 collect a lot of telemetry and usage data by default to improve services and deliver targeted ads. If you value your digital privacy, you can quickly minimize this tracking by adjusting a few built-in settings. Here is how to lock down your personal data.
How to Fix It:
Disable General Tracking: Press the Windows Key + I to open Settings. Go to Privacy & security (or just Privacy in Windows 10). Click on General. Turn off the toggles for the advertising ID, tracking app launches, and tailored content.
Limit Diagnostic Data: In the same Privacy menu, click on Diagnostics & feedback. Change the diagnostic data setting from "Optional" (or "Full") to Required (or "Basic"). This stops Windows from sending your browsing history and app usage to Microsoft.
Turn Off Activity History: Go to the Activity history tab on the left. Uncheck the box that says "Store my activity history on this device" (and "Send my activity history to Microsoft" if visible). Click the Clear button to erase any previously saved data.
These quick changes will significantly boost your privacy without affecting how your computer runs!
