How to Fix Windows PC Overheating (With One‑Click Script Option)

Windows laptops and PCs often get hot: the fan becomes loud, the case gets warm, and everything slows down.

This guide is written for beginners and matches what you actually see on your Windows 11 screen.

Here is the simplest possible guide, step‑by‑step, with no confusing instructions.

Reason — Task — Solution

Reason: Your PC is overheating because the CPU and GPU are working too hard for too long (background apps, Defender, visual effects, wrong power mode, etc.).

Task: Check the load, reduce unnecessary activity, and switch Windows to a cooler mode.

Solution: Follow the steps below exactly as written — they match your real Windows 11 interface.

Step 1: Open Task Manager and Check Load

  1. Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC.

  2. The Task Manager window will open.

  3. On the left side, click Performance.

  4. Click CPU and look at the % in the top‑right corner.

    • If it stays near 90–100%, your PC is overheating.

  5. Click GPU — many systems show temperature here.

  6. If you see the message: “Power mode is set automatically while the high performance power plan is used.” — this means your PC is running in High Performance, which makes it hotter.

  7. Change the power plan to something cooler:

    • Balanced

    • or Best power efficiency

  8. If you see Energy saver, you can turn it On to reduce heat even more.
