How to Stop Apps from Running in the Background in Windows

Many Windows applications continue to run in the background even after you close them. This consumes your computer's RAM, drains laptop battery life, and can slow down overall performance. You can easily prevent this to make your PC run faster.

Here is how to stop background apps:

For Windows 11:

  1. Open Settings: Press the Windows key + I.

  2. Go to Apps: Click on Apps in the left menu, then select Installed apps.

  3. Find the App: Scroll to the app you want to stop. Click the three dots (...) next to it and select Advanced options.

  4. Change Permissions: Under "Background apps permissions," open the drop-down menu and select Never.
